Indonesia, Jakarta, day 6

After a one day of doing nothing, I went for a walk. I went to the Old Town (Kota Tua) which was close to the Jakarta Kota train station and my hotel.

Photos below:

Usually, the traffic is very high, the photo with the far away cars is more of an exception than a rule. The usual situation is rather lots of cars and waiting for a possibility to cross the street.

Indonesia, day 4 part 2

Photos from Mangga Dua Raya street. I was shopping in WTC (02.09.) and ITC (03.09.) ITC had more expensive food than WTC. In those shops you can usually bargain. If not, there is somewhere written "harga pas" (fixed price). Later, later, I learned to try to bargain even in those shops, sometimes they'll lower the price. A lot of ITC shops had the ban for taking photos.

In WTC I paid for a meal 13.000. In ITC a guy wanted me to pay 58.000! After I already ate and was supposed to pay. I laughed him off and discussed the price. In the end I paid 33.000 Rp. Still too much I didn't bargain for the price of mango juice.

I bought stationery things (glue - 3,500, scissors - 4,500, notebook - 2,000, set of 12 markers - 10,000). I had a long conversation with the owner lady, she told me where to go, where to eat. She even told me how to get there from my hotel. And to think in the beginning I was so unhappy when she asked where I stayed. :D

Next, 3 small nail polishes - 25,000 Rp, polish remover - 10,000. I bargained a bit, but it was hard when you don't know prices.

Alfamart, mini-market, isn't the cheapest shop. I bought there 1.5l mineral water (3,500), white soap (1,900), 6 sashets (23g) of washing detergent (3,500), 40g of green leaf tea (1,900).

In WTC there was a stand with cheap books. I bought Indonesian fairy tales (bilingual), picture dictionaries, dictionary of synonimes and antonimes and some more books for children. I nbought 6 books for 137,675 Rp. The cheapest was for 14,450 the most expensive (in a hardcover) for 38,250 Rp.

Indonesia, day 4 part 1

The next day I spent on shopping. For those who are not interested in shopping, there are some photos of Mangga Dua Raya street in Jakarta. Photos are showing: malls, entrances to markets, mobile food stands, bus stops, railroad, buildings that I took liking in and my hotel.

Usually people are walking on the left side. Usually. ;)
